Program to be launched in 2007

Since its independence in 1966, Botswana has maintained one of the highest economic growth rates in the world. It has combined its rich natural resources (diamonds) with sound fiscal management and 40 years of peaceful civilian government free of corruption. However, this security is threatened by the second highest HIV/AIDS prevalence in the world, with close to 40% of the adult population infected.

Malaria is a major public health problem in Botswana, since 40-50% of the population is exposed to the risk of infection. It is prevalent throughout much of the country, however the northern part has the highest transmission rate, accounting for more than 80% of all cases. Additionally, the high numbers of people living with HIV/AIDS, whose immune systems are already compromised, are at a greater risk of dying from malaria if infected.

NetsforLife® Implementing Partner

NetsforLife will work with the Diocese of Botswana, part of the Church of the Province of Central Africa. The diocese has taken a leading role in caring for people dying from HIV/AIDS and supporting families and orphans.
