On January 18, 2007, NetsforLife hosted its first annual advisory board meeting called “Great & The Good.” The one-day meeting took place at the University Club in New York City. Hosted by the sponsors of the NetsforLife program, this meeting brought together members of the advisory board and other colleague agencies in the fight to prevent malaria. Staff of implementing partners presented the progress of the NetsforLife program and monitor and evaluation results were discussed by Dr. Stephen Dzisi, Episcopal Relief and Development’s Program Officer for Africa Programs.
Later that evening, Dr. Jim Yong Kim, Professor and Director of the François-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights at the Harvard School of Public Health, was a special guest speaker. Dr. Kim discussed the challenge of distribution as the gaping hole in global health problems today. Professor Bill Easterly, Professor of Economics at New York University, started a lively debate about the challenge to resolve distribution problems, particular in the international response to malaria.
