Tanzania faces difficult economic challenges - its economy depends heavily on agriculture, which accounts for almost half of GDP and employs 80% of the work force. However the climate and topography limit cultivated crops to only four percent of the land area. Because of these factors, Tanzania faces chronic food insecurity and poverty. The average life expectancy of a person living in Tanzania is 45 years of age.

Malaria is the leading cause of death among both adults and children in Tanzania, and the most common reason for inpatient and outpatient hospital admissions.

NetsforLife® Implementing Partner

The Anglican Church of Tanzania, which consists of 19 dioceses and 1.3 million congregants, has established the Provincial Development Office (PDO) which oversees all development and health care programs. The PDO address the major development needs - food security, agriculture, education, economic livelihood, and primary health care - at the village level, and is committed to a people-centered, integrated model of community development.
