NetsforLife Program Model

Corrected: 10/16/2003 (view corrections)

  1. A baseline study and analysis.
It is the first step in the monitoring and evaluation process
  2. Meetings and workshops for the community.
These are designed to increase awareness and educate community leaders on malaria prevention and effective treatment. By providing accurate information and raising awareness about malaria, people begin to see the huge impact of malaria on their community. The NetsforLife program becomes a vehicle for communities to engage in their own battle to control malaria.
  3. Distribution of nets (LLITNs) accompanied by on- on-one education on benefits and correct use of nets.
  4. Monitoring.
Monitoring begins three months after nets are distributed, or the next rainy season. It is repeated at twelve months and 24 months after initial net distribution. Monitoring includes observation such as: Are the nets in use? Are the nets being used properly? Who is sleeping under them? Interviews are also conducted to see whether people correctly recall the information about preventing malaria, its symptoms, and effective treatment.
