On March 12 and 13, NetsforLife implementing partners met for a roundtable preceding the Towards Effective Anglican Mission (TEAM) Conference in Boksburg, South Africa. The TEAM Conference focused on the Church’s role addressing the eight Millennium Development Goals. More than 350 people from 38 provinces in the Anglican Communion were delegates at the conference.

Dr. Stephen Dzisi, Episcopal Relief and Development’s Program Officer for Africa, welcomed the group. The meeting was attended by NetsforLife local partner agencies including the following individuals: Florence Anyango Achapa of Inter Diocesan Christian Community Services in Kenya; the Very Rev. Dr. Jacob Ayeebo of the Church of the Province of West Africa; Philip Ombidi of Inter Diocesan Christian Community Services in Kenya; Jacqueline Park of the Anglican Diocese of Namibia; Henry Woart of the Episcopal Diocese of Liberia; the Rt. Rev. Christopher Boyle, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Northern Malawi; Ruth Mwidu of Uganda; Marinela Chachine of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa in Mozambique; Mathilda Chiutula of Anglican Council of Malawi; Mario Dos Santos of the Anglican Diocese of Angola; Dr. Cyprian Chilowa from Tanzania, and Mwale Subi of the Anglican Church of the Province of Africa. Janette O'Neill, Episcopal Relief and Development's Senior Director, Africa Programs, and Susan Lassen, Leadership Gifts Officer for Episcopal Relief and Development, also participated in the roundtable.

Each local partner presented their experiences, stories, challenges and successes in collecting, analyzing and evaluating data from the field. Dr. Matondo Alexandre, Episcopal Relief and Development’s Consultant for Malaria Monitoring and Evaluation, also participated in the roundtable. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, and Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane of Southern Africa attended the meeting on March 13 to express their support of the NetsforLife initative. Archbishop Williams said when he first heard about NetsforLife he was puzzled because he thought to word always meant a restriction of some kind but realized that NetsforLife is about giving life. Archbishop Ndungane remarked that when you offer a helping hand to a brother in need, you receive a gift.
