Malaria can be prevented with basic knowledge and a simple, easy-to-use tool—a Long-Lasting Insecticide-Treated Net (LLITN).

It is estimated that less than 5% of children in sub-Saharan Africa currently sleep under any type of insecticide-treated net.

Nets Save Lives

Preventing the spread of malaria is the key to saving lives. Since most malaria-carrying mosquitoes bite at night, the simplest and most effective preventive technique is sleeping under an insecticide-treated net.

Sleeping under an insecticide-treated net protects against malaria and repels and kills malaria-carrying mosquitoes. One net typically will cover three children.

Why Long-Lasting Insecticide-Treated Nets?

Long-lasting insecticide-treated nets are infused with an insecticide that remains effective for up to 20 washes (an estimated three to five years). Traditional nets must be re-treated with insecticide every six months—a difficult practice to maintain—or they become ineffective in treating malaria.

NetsforLife® only distributes long-lasting insecticide-treated nets.

Research shows that when nets are used properly by three-quarters of the people in a community:

  • Malaria transmission is cut by 50%
  • Child deaths are cut by 20%
  • The mosquito population drops by as much as 90%

About our Nets

NetsforLife® provides long-lasting insecticide-treated nets approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) along with the appropriate training and use of the nets.

NetsforLife® prioritizes the distribution of insecticide-treated nets to those groups most vulnerable to malaria—young children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems (such as people living with HIV/AIDS).
