They found people suffering and dying from malaria because they had no understanding of malaria prevention and no access to nets and effective treatment.
Realizing these communities were beyond the reach of the national health system, the group was inspired by the idea of using the church to teach malaria prevention and deliver nets in the isolated communities it served.
The plan quickly took shape. With the help of Episcopal Relief & Development, support was galvanized and the NetsforLife® collaborative partnership was born.
NetsforLife® is a partnership of corporations, foundations, NGOs and faith-based organizations brought together by their commitment to eliminating malaria in sub-Saharan Africa.
Sponsors include ExxonMobil Foundation, Standard Chartered Bank, Coca-Cola Africa Foundation, The Starr International Foundation and White Flowers Foundation.
NetsforLife® is managed and monitored by Episcopal Relief & Development in 15 countries and Christian Aid in two.
Programs are implemented by local Anglican dioceses, churches and faith-based groups.
Participating churches have up to ten outstations in remote areas with women and youth networks that, when trained, become powerful activists in their own communities. These networks are the hands and feet of NetsforLife®.
