Standard Chartered has identified four key areas in which our core business can assist sustainable economic development: namely our governance, environment, social and economic contribution in our markets. The Bank’s community programmes are part of our social contribution to our African markets, and we believe that commitment to programmes such as NetsforLife® can strengthen the relationships between our customers and local communities.
ExxonMobil is no newcomer to Africa. With thousands of employees and additional workers associated with the company in Africa, ExxonMobil is one of the largest private foreign investors on the continent, and it is an area of significant growth.
The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation (TCCAF) was established in 2001 to bring more structure and focus on the community projects and is funded by the entire Coca-Cola System (Coca-Cola business units and bottlers) in Africa.
The partnership with NetsforLife® is its effort to mitigate the number of deaths in malaria-infested African countries in which The Coca-Cola Company operates.

The JC Flowers Foundation has invested in malaria prevention work in partnership with the Anglican Church in Africa and Episcopal Relief & Development since December 2004. The capacity of the church to mobilize volunteers, train and educate lay leaders and to distribute nets was clear. The NetsforLife® consortium of funders together investing technical expertise in addition to funding is realizing our vision for measurable intervention in health knowledge in vulnerable communities.
The Starr Foundation was established in the United States in 1955 by Cornelius Vander Starr, who founded C.V. Starr & Co. and other insurance and financial services concerns in 1919. When Mr. Starr died, he left his companies and his foundation in the hands of his partner Maurice R. Greenberg and other executives to pursue educational, medical, humanitarian, cultural and other charitable purposes.
Starr has provided $6 million for NetsforLife®, $4 million from the Swiss foundation and $2 million from the U.S.-based foundation.
