Coca-Cola Africa Foundation

The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation (TCCAF) was established in 2001 to bring more structure and focus on the community projects and is funded by the entire Coca-Cola System (Coca-Cola business units and bottlers) in Africa.

In 2006, TCCAF changed its implementing strategy from simply responding to funding requests to partnering with communities to meet both their needs as well as the sustainability goals of The Coca-Cola Company.

Investing in Our Communities

TCCAF’s community projects are located within four strategic pillars. These are: Water (Access, Sanitation Watershed Protection and Productive Use of Water); Health (Prevention and treatment of HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Hepatitis); Education; and Entrepreneurship.

TCCAF also assists communities in times of disaster and strife through its Humanitarian Relief programs. Over 500,000 people, in various parts of Africa, have benefited from an investment of more than $25 million in nearly 140 community projects in 34 countries since 2006.

As part of refining its funding model in 2009, TCCAF has made a strategic shift from being solely funded by The Coca-Cola System to proactively seeking co-funders, specifically for its water programmes. A total of $54 million will be available as a result of the co-funding strategy between 2009 and 2015 to help Africa meet the Millennium Development Goal on Water, simultaneously contributing significantly to TCCC’s commitment to replenish water. This will run concurrently with projects falling within the three strategic pillars of Health, Education and Entrepreneurship as well as supporting Humanitarian Relief interventions.

Working with NetsforLife® to eliminate malaria in Africa

Recognizing that no single organization can effectively address Africa’s development challenges alone, TCCAF utilizes and mobilizes resources and expertise from a broad spectrum of stakeholder partnerships, including NGOs, governments, community based organizations and private sector companies.

The partnership with NetsforLife® is its effort to mitigate the number of deaths in malaria-endemic African countries in which TCCC operates. A total of 1,005,039 long lasting insecticide-treated nets have been distributed in 15 countries in the 18-month period to September 2008, directly reaching 2.1 million people with educational messages on malaria.

TCCAF will contribute $1 million per year to NetsforLife®'s Phase 2 programme.  The goal of Phase 2 is to distribute seven million nets across 17 countries by 2013.
